Failure turned Success
I’m 37 days away from the wedding and it seems like everything that “can” go wrong, IS!!
In the past week we had to “let go” of our current pastor and find someone else, the hotel that we are using to block rooms is not being cooperative and has changed the pricing on me (dramatically), my DIY bouquets for the bridal party were a complete failure and I failed to make the final payment to our photographer by the due date because I have somehow LOST our contract and didn’t know it was due!
I’m emotionally drained. I have never wanted to give up on something so badly as I do this wedding! Why didn’t we go to the courthouse or elope?
But, I can see light at the end of the tunnel….. Our new officiant is so totally cool. She understands our “vision” and hasn’t tried to push us to do something we are uncomfortable with. Not to mention that she has such a great personality. She is funny and a bit of a wise-ass just like my fiance! What a perfect fit!
Yes, the hotel has raised their prices but they are at least working with me on other areas. Originally, as most hotels do, I had to block rooms and whatever rooms were not used I was responsible for payment. They are now letting me block rooms and whatever rooms are not booked they will just open back up to the public a couple weeks before the wedding and I will not be responsible for the cost. The downside is still the fact that I have to make sure my guests book their rooms in the next couple weeks as the blocked rooms are only good up until a certain date.
After giving up on the idea that I would make all the bouquets, I finally broke down and went to a florist. I’m in L-O-V-E with the bridesmaid bouquets that we picked out.

And lastly, I spoke to our photographer yesterday and explained how sorry I was about missing the payment and she was totally cool. A check went in the mail and all is right with the world again!
Now if only I could make some progress on our rehearsal dinner…….
DIY Flower Trial
I am so in love with the idea of using these as some of my centerpeices, so I finally decided it was time for a “trial run”. I went to Michaels’s Craft store and bought all my supplies and headed home to figure out this glue gun thingy.
After making a few trials we finally started to get the hang of this. I think we did about 6 of these and by the last one, we had it down to a science. I knew it would only be a mattered of time before we perfected it. Our only problem now is that I hope we can remember all of our “tricks of the trade” by the time it comes around to making the rest.

You will notice in the pic above that all of the red carnation balls will be in the white milk glass vases and all the white centerpeices will be in clear china…..it looks so awesome in real life!! I’m getting more and more excited every day!
Flowers, Dress, Veil….Oh My!
Flowers Dress We also took some time to look for a Mother of Groom dress for her and she was having a blast. She found 2 great contenders from Nordstrom’s Dress Shop. J Kara Beaded Dress with Bolero Jacket in Navy/Silver
Last night I was lucky enough to spend a few hours with my FMIL and we had such a good time. We did nothing but talk wedding for about 3 hours. She gave me some much needed input on my flowers so I was much appreciative. I’ve decided I’m going to try and do some test runs involving silk carnations and see if I can come up with anything that resembles this…..

I also got a chance to show her some of the dresses that I am drooling over these days. I was a little worried she may not like my choices, given that I’m going rather casual due to our change in venue. But to my surprise, she was drooling almost as much as me. This dress by Alfred Angelo is still my top contender and my FMIL agrees..

JS Collections Bead Lace Chiffon Gown in Black/Nude
Veil
I’ve been in love with this veil ever since I saw it on The Perfect Palette.
And much to my surprise my FMIL loved it too. She thinks it will look fab on me…and I agree!
Flowers – DIY
Okay, so the further I get into wedding planning process, the more things I think we should try to DIY…..I’m not having floral centerpieces, really not many flowers at all except for the bouquets. Knowing that I’m not very artsy or creative……do you think I could do this?
Real Simple Weddings has some pretty cool DIY bouquets….love the carnations (weird, I know)
Big Wedding, Tiny Budget had some great advice on DIY Flowers and some great tutorial videos
I guess one of the cool things about the year and a half left of our engagement is that we have lots of time to test things out. Any volunteers would be great!!!
